Selectel Wireless Services

Before you can buy a plan you must set your phone up to work on the Selectel network. Genius Wireless can help you do this as quickly and easily as possible. Be aware that you should not buy a plan before activating your phone with Selectel. Please get your phone set up first and then buy your plan after that.

Services Overview

There are three basic ways to set up your phone on Selectel. First is to Port. You will Port if you are bringing your own cell number from somewhere else. Second is to Activate. This means that you will get a new phone number from Selectel when you activate the phone. Be prepared to give the zip code you want your phone area code to be associated with. Selectel cannot guarantee you will get the area code for your area. Genius Wireless will attempt to ensure you have a “local” area code but there are times that an area code just is not available. The third way to set up a phone is to change the ESN. In this case you already have an account (phone number) with Selectel and you just want to change the phone that is on the account. Selectel lets you put any type of approved phone on any plan so you can switch at any time you like.

NOTE: Selectel will only take ESN’s with 11 or 14 characters. Older phones with only the short ESN will not activate on Selectel.

You may want to make changes to your account after you have your Selectel phone working. Let Genius Wireless help you with that! An ESN swap lets you take phones on two current Selectel accounts and swap them out. So each account gets the phone from the other. Let us know if you need an ESN swap. Also, we can do an ESN check if you are considering buying or selling a phone and you want be to sure the phone is not “blacklisted” from the Page Plus network. If you want to get a different telephone number on your current Page Plus account you can order a Phone Number change. Check before hand so you know the zip code for the area you want your area code to be based on.

Port – FREE

Port: If you desire to keep your current cell phone number (or landline number) and transfer it to a new Selectel account you should use the Port service. Please be aware that this service involves another company and we cannot control or be responsible for how fast or slow the process occurs due to the fact that another company is involved in releasing your number.

You will need to request Port information from your current company such as Account number, Password, Name and Address on account. They will need enough information to give you the account number and password if any. Please call them and make sure you have the correct name on the account and account number and password! It really helps if you ensure this is accurate from the start. Also, have the ESN (also called MEID or HEX) for your new phone. Then you will fill out our form and request the Port.

Please tell us in the comments section of the order form if this is a landline (not a cell phone line) as we have to know that when porting.

NOTE: If the address for the old phone account is different from your billing address please give us the old account address in the special instructions area of the order form.

CAUTION: If the phone you will use is already active on Selectel on another number please tell us that in the comments area and give us the phone number it is currently on so we can put the phone on the newly ported number.

Once the number is released to Selectel we are able to activate the number for your phone. Genius Wireless will send you an email telling you how to program your phone once the account is ready. Once the phone is programmed you will have about 15 minutes of talk time to test the phone if you wish before signing up for a plan for you to use with that phone. Then you can buy your plan. Genius Wireless will refund any Port that cannot be completed.

Activate – FREE

Activate: If you want to start a new Selectel account and need a new number then you want to order an Activation. When you order have a zip code ready to give for the area you want your area code to be based on.

Before you activate a new phone number with Selectel you will need a phone that will work on the Selectel network. Once you have the phone you will give us the ESN from that phone so it can be activated on the network. Here are instructions on how to find the ESN on your phone:

ESN Change – $2.99

ESN Change: If you already have an account with Selectel and want to change the phone on that account you can let Genius Wireless handle that for you. We will need your current phone number, the ESN from the current phone and the ESN for the new phone. Once we do the ESN swap you will need to activate the phone with over the air programming by calling *22890 or *228, option 1. Once the phone has been activated just make a call out and and take a call and you are done.

Phone Number Change – $2.99

Phone Number Change: If you wish to change the phone number on your Selectel account Genius Wireless is ready to help. We will need the current Selectel phone number, the ESN for the phone on the account and the zip code for area code to be based on. We will send you an email to inform you when the new number is ready. You will need to activate the phone when you are done by dialing *22890 or *228, option 1. You will retain all aspects of your account except the assigned phone number will change.

ESN Check – $1.99

ESN Check: If you are considering buying a phone you want to know that the phone will activate on the Selectel network. If a phone has been blacklisted due to being reported stolen, lost or on a delinquent account it will not be able to activate and the phone will NOT work on Selectel. This is known as a Bad ESN. We highly recommend that you check very carefully with any seller before buying any cell phone to ensure that it is not blacklisted. If you have any reason to suspect the phone has a Bad ESN let us check it for you. Send us the ESN (also called the MEID for many phones) and we will let you know if the ESN is “clean” or “bad”.
